Description |
The Northern Illinois Food Bank collects and distributes food to various organizations in the northwest suburbs that then distribute food to needy families. We perform a variety of tasks at the food bank, such as cleaning the outside of various food products prior to packaging them and sorting products into categories.
We'd love to have 10-15 volunteers for this project. We will be working in a warehouse environment, so dress appropriately - in layers when it is cold, long pants, and closed toed shoes (no sandals or heels) with a rubber sole.
If you've never volunteered before at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, please show up 15 minutes early so you can hear their presentation on the organization.

Description |
Polar Express is based on the children's book. Families ride the Metra train from Downers Grove to Aurora. While on the train, the story is read to the families. Once arriving at the roundhouse, there is food and games for the families.
As volunteers, we would be helping families board/exit the train and then help with games and refreshments. It's for two days, but volunteers usually choose one day although some do ask to come both days. Volunteers come for the whole event which is about 4 hours divided in two shifts – if one group rides the first train, they work the station for the 2nd shift and vice versa. I have groups that help at the Aurora train station, groups that come to carol, etc. so you can see it’s a major scheduling event.
They take volunteers on a first come, first serve basis and I generally have registration forms available by September 1. |
