Event Description |
Night OWLS (Night Out With Loving Sitters) is a non-sectarian ministry of First United Methodist Church in Arlington Heights, open to families throughout the northwest suburbs. Originally designed as a respite program for parents of special needs children, it has evolved into something more: still a delightful evening out for parents but also fun for all the children and our volunteers. There is quite a range of “disabilities,” though we are not able to accept medically fragile children.
On the third Saturday of the month (September through May, except not in December), special needs children and their siblings, ages 2-12, enjoy a pizza supper at 6:00 pm. After dinner, all children can visit different activity stations throughput the lower level of the church. Crafts, large motor equipment, movies, computer games, Lego building, board games, and more are included each evening. Each special needs child has his/her own adult “buddy” and all children are supervised by a youth or adult. Parents must pick up children by 9:00 pm.
We are not a large program, we advertise by word-of-mouth, and we try to accept all interested families each month. |
