| Event Description | The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to members of our community struggling with poverty or homelessness. They typically hand out 200 sandwiches per week to the homeless. They need our help in making sandwiches. |
| Additional Description | During the pandemic, the need for sandwiches has grown significantly as hot meals are unavailable. eKiwanis is signed up to provide 50 sandwiches on June 28th! This will be a two part event. The first part will be making the sandwiches all together via Zoom. The second part will be dropping the sandwiches off at the below address. Each person will be responsible for dropping their sandwiches off that day. Everyone is invited to join us via Zoom to chat, even if you don't want to make sandwiches! We need to provide 40 Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches and 10 Ham & Cheese OR Turkey & Cheese sandwiches. The Service Committee has planned for each person to make 10 sandwiches. When you signup, in the comments please note which sandwich you will be making. If you see 5 people are already signed up, please still signup! If we are able to make more then 50 sandwiches as a club I'm sure they would appreciate it. Please see specific instructions on buying supplies/making & packing the sandwiches here: When making sandwiches, please individually bag them in ziplock sandwich bags (not the fold-over style) and place them back into the original bag from the loaf of bread so that approximately 10 sandwiches can be carried neatly together in the bag. When shopping, plan for roughly 1 oz of peanut butter and a little less than 1/2 oz of jelly per sandwich, and 1 pound of turkey or ham per 10 sandwiches. Check loaves of bread to make sure they have 22 slices so that you can make 10 sandwiches out of 1 loaf of bread (Sara Lee Honey Wheat twin packs from Costco work well - $3.39 for 2 loaves). Please put peanut butter on BOTH sides of pb&j sandwiches so that the jelly does not soak through the bread. |
